Competition Theme:

The Boundary Between Dream and Reality

This theme invites artists from around the world to explore the interpenetration and intertwining of dreams and reality. This boundary may be blurred, fluid, or even non-existent — and that is exactly what we aim to explore. The Whitelock Art Center’s jury emphasizes that the aesthetic of submissions can range from surreal dreamscapes to highly realistic depictions, or a combination and conflict of both, pushing the boundaries of abstract thought. Artists are encouraged to break free from traditional frameworks and conventional norms, expressing the dialogue between imagination and reality in their unique ways.

Accepted Art Forms:

The competition covers a wide range of art forms, including pastels, oil painting, acrylic painting, ink art, photography, sculpture, digital art, printmaking, fiber art, collage, installation art, mixed media, new media art, sound, video, and other forms of artistic expression.

Submission Requirements:

  • Images of the artist's work in JPG format, or for sound or video art, please provide an online link and a main image of the work;

  • One document containing the artist’s CV;

  • A brief artist’s statement;

  • Each artwork should be labeled with the title, year of creation, material, dimensions, artist’s name, and nationality;

  • Screenshot of the submission fee payment;

  • Submit works to the official email: whitelockartcenter@gmail.com；

  • The email subject should be: xxx name — The Boundary Between Dream and Reality.

Judging Panels:

The judging panel, consisting of renowned artists, curators, and critics from around the world, will evaluate submissions in three rounds, focusing on:

Eligibility:

Open to professional artists, art students, and enthusiasts who are 18 years of age or older worldwide. Participants may enter individually or as a team, with each participant (or team) allowed to submit up to five works.

Submission Fees:

  • The fee for the first three entries is $39.

  • Each additional entry costs $8.

Copyright and Usage:

  • Copyright Ownership:
    All copyrights of the submitted works remain with the participants. By submitting their works, participants grant the competition organizing committee permission to use images and descriptions of the works for promotional purposes during and after the competition.

  • Usage Authorization:
    The organizing committee reserves the right to display images of the submitted works on the website, social media, and promotional materials without additional compensation.

  • Commercial Use:
    If the organizing committee or its partners intend to use the works commercially (e.g., in publications, merchandise), a separate agreement will be negotiated with the participants to define the distribution of commercial benefits.

Dispute Resolution:

In the event of disputes related to copyright, usage rights, or other issues, parties should seek to resolve them amicably. If resolution cannot be achieved through negotiation, disputes will be submitted to the courts in New York for resolution under local laws.
